The World History of Quantity Surveying

The development of the quantity surveying profession was happening during 19th century. At the early stage those professionals acted as measurers of the construction quantities. So that their major role was to determine all the material and labour requirement, prepare standard schedules for those quantities and estimate the cost of the project with them. This process was very important at the tendering stage. As a result of that, all the competing tenderers could submit their priced tenders based on the same schedule of information. Therefore it was easy to compare and select the project contractor out of the tenderers. Around 1820, quantity surveying was imaged as a profession and Sir Henry Arthur Hunt is considered as one of the earliest quantity surveyor. He was involved in the construction of House of Parliament in United Kingdom.
